5 WAYS TO MAKE SURE YOUR WAY LUBE SYSTEM IS CORRECT
To optimize machine tool performance, running time and use of machine tools, it is essential to have a healthy way lube system. The lube way system of a machine tool is designed to adjust the lubrication flow and to properly allocate the volume of lubricant to the essential sliding components. If you are in doubt about the lube system, here are five things to look for to ensure that your machine is in top condition.
1. INSPECT YOUR FILTER AND METERING VALVES
If your system using way lube but not enough volume is used depending on the machine’s operating hours, it’s time to inspect your filter and metering valves. In most cases, the filter looks like a small circular wafer and should be changed at each preventive maintenance cycle.
If the filter becomes clogged, it will restrict the flow of lubricant through the system. The same thing can happen with metering valves that are located in terminal blocks throughout the system. It is best practice to inspect, clean and replace if necessary, during preventive maintenance, especially if the amount of lubricant used is low.
2. CHECK THE PUMP
If you notice that the way lube level in the tank is not moving, the first place to start is the pump. More than likely, the pump has burned out and is no longer pushes lubricant into the entire system. An easy way to check this is to make sure that the pump is running during the cycle. Once you have confirmed that the pump is energized, a visual check of the engine rotation will determine if it is working.
3. ANALYZE THE MACHINE TOOL’S ALARM HISTORY
To make sure your lubrication system is correct, check your machine’s alarm history. After looking at recent alarms, you will understand if there are any problems that may have previously existed in the way lube system that went unchecked. This can guide you in the right direction from where to start looking for a potential problem.
4. INSPECT FLUID LINES FOR LEAKS
If your system uses an excessive volume of way lube, it may leak somewhere, in which case the mechanical parts will not receive enough lubricant. This could be identified by a quick visual inspection. Checking for cracked lines, loose fittings and / or loose connections in the metering valves at the terminal blocks may quickly solve your problem.
5. INSPECT THE WAY LUBE TYPE AND CONDITION
To ensure that the essential components of the machine tool are properly lubricated, it is essential to make sure that you use the type of way lube specified in the operation and maintenance manual. Once you have verified that the type is correct, make sure that the color is correct and that the tank is free of debris.
